How do I handle MP3 files?
Clicking an MP3 link on this site should just throw up a prompt to save the .mp3 file where you wish. If you have installed Windows Media player it may try to play the file directly rather than allowing you to save it. You should go into your browser options and change this. In Netscape go Edit: Preferences: Navigator: Applications - scroll until you find "MPEG Audio" - highlight this and click "Edit." In the "Handled by" section of the window you can select "Save it to disk" or designate the application of your choice to open the file. In Explorer, go Tools: Internet Options: Advanced: Multimedia, and uncheck the "Play Sounds" box.

When QuickTime wants to play your MP3s and you don't want it to (on a Mac)
Read the above paragraph and do the same thing on the Mac. Most likely QuickTime (when you installed) took over all media types. Find "MPEG Audio" and edit the settings to remove QuickTime as its default handler.
